Writing Updates

I’m happy to share that Teaching for Truth, Goodness, and Beauty: Medieval Voices for the Future of Classical Christian Education has been completed and sent to my editor. As an added bonus, TTGB will feature a foreword from the incomparable Nadya Williams! By way of previewing some of the feedback we’re getting on the book, check out this from Matthew Barrett (Trinity Anglican Seminary):

Classical Christian education has become a haven in our secular age, but there are many competing approaches and not all of them capture the true meaning of paideia. Kyle Hughes moves past all the confusion by resurrecting the true purpose of liberal education as conceived by the greatest minds of the Middle Ages. The brilliance of Hughes shines bright when he observes the many ways medieval education appropriated the Greek tradition on everything from philosophy to virtue. Before you is one of today’s most informed invitations to truth, goodness, and beauty. I put down this book filled with hope for the next generation should they listen to the medieval wisdom Hughes so graciously shares.

We are anticipating publication of the book in Q4 2026, but I will keep you all posted as we get closer to a more concrete release date.

I also have a new article that has appeared in the Cranmer Theological Journal, adapting my chapter on catechesis from Teaching for Spiritual Formation to an Anglican context; this was originally presented as one of my Thomas Oden Patristics Lectures in January 2025 at Trinity Anglican Seminary. You can check out the article, and the whole journal, for free here (issue 3.1).

Finally, I can now share that the Anglican Church in North America has approved the creation of a children’s catechism. I’ve been hard at work on this project alongside a team of other writers from across North America for over a year now, and we have made substantial headway. Provisionally titled Growing in Grace: An Anglican Catechism for Children, we hope that this will be a blessing to many families in our province. My hope is for it to be published in 2027. Much more on this to come!
